February 10 de Bono Hats - an interesting tool to facilitate discussionInspired by an article on Mckinsey Quarterly - The Crisis: Mobilizing boards for change
In the article, the arthor suggested one forced methodology to change the interaction of board members. That is de Bono Hats (Six Thinking Hats).
It works as follows:
I felt quite strongly for this is mainly because in our real life discussions, we always miss some of the elements of the six hats. Take typical discussion in consulting, we have a lot of neutrality (facts), lots of negative judgement (even in the idea gathering sessions), quite some positive judgement and process control. However, we are missing the elements of feeling and creative thinking. For me, I would feel awkward to say something without any clues or fact base in a meeting. I guess it would be true for others, since we have way too much negative judgement. Sometimes you just have to shut up without the facts! I have been feeling myself being abnoxious about friends' "random" but could be interesting comments - Sorry my dear friends, my bad!!!
